The study
HyWay 27 will produce a thorough policy analysis to enable the government to make a well-founded decision in good time about the use of infrastructure for hydrogen transport and storage. It will do this by investigating the interrelationships between supply, demand and storage, the legal and financial aspects, and the technical and security-related aspects.
Objective
The Dutch government envisages a key role in Europe for carbon-neutral hydrogen in the transition towards a sustainable energy system. Large-scale use of hydrogen will not only help to achieve climate goals, it will also create opportunities for economic growth.
Thanks to its favourable location, international ports and the existing gas grids and storage capacity, the Netherlands should be able to fulfil a key energy hub role, in the future too.
Since the infrastructure roll-out may be phased or modular, it is crucial to ensure alignment with regional plans. The Rotterdam and Northern Netherlands regions will make an investment decision in 2021 to enable timely completion of the infrastructure. HyWay 27 will ensure that the study’s schedule fits in well with regional schedules.
